Amazon late last year launched AWS Outposts, a fully managed service based on a converged infrastructure rack, including server, storage, networking, and AWS cloud software services. The appliance is integrated with the public AWS cloud for a consistent hybrid cloud AWS experience across the customer’s data centres and its AWS accounts.

The delivery of truly differentiated offerings that create opportunities for partners during this unprecedented period is the crowning achievement of our 2020 Tech Innovators.

Whether on premises in hardware or in a cloud, next-generation enterprise data storage is all about systems providing the correct data protection for users while at the same time maintaining data privacy for stakeholders at all levels. These requirements are the same for any size enterprise. In this article, eWEEK looks at the world’s top suppliers of data storage hardware.

Recent industry data shows that enterprise storage is on the back burner for many CIOs and spending momentum is weakening. However, there appears to be at least one company that is experiencing tailwinds instead of headwinds. The software-focused enterprise data storage vendor Infinidat Ltd. successfully raised new funding in June, despite an economic downturn caused by the global pandemic, and achieved an “Outposts Ready” designation from Amazon Web Services Inc. earlier this month.

Analyst house Gartner, Inc. recently released the 2020 version of its Magic Quadrant for Primary Storage Arrays. According to Gartner, a primary storage array’s primary purpose is “to support a response time and input/output per second (IOPS)-sensitive structured data workloads. Typical use cases include mission-critical workloads such as IBM Db2, Microsoft SQL, Microsoft Exchange and SharePoint, Oracle Databases and applications, SAP HANA, and in-house developed transactional applications. Other use cases include application consolidation, support for virtual environments, and providing persistent storage for container environments.”

Infinidat Ltd signed an agreement to make immixGroup, Inc., an Arrow Electronics company, its public sector distributor, creating opportunities for VARs to grow their business by selling its storage solutions into the government market.

The phrase made famous by former Intel CEO Andy Grove, “Only the paranoid survive,” applies to adequately planning for backup and disaster recovery (BUDR). When planning for a crisis with an eye toward business continuity, it is wise to have a healthy sense of paranoia about what could go wrong and what can be done to prepare for it. Based on my more than four decades of experience in the IT industry, I offer up three keys to help organizations enhance and tighten up their level of preparedness.

Infinidat Ltd achieved the AWS Outposts Ready designation, part of the AWS Service Ready Program.

This designation recognises that Infinidat has demonstrated successful integration with AWS Outposts deployments. AWS Outposts is a fully managed service that extends AWS infrastructure, AWS services, APIs, and tools to virtually any datacenter, co-location space, or on-premises facility for a truly consistent multi-cloud experience.

The storage business as we know it has changed forever.

The storage business as we know it has changed forever. On premises, external storage was once a virtually unlimited and untapped bastion of innovation, VC funding and lucrative exits. Today it is a shadow of its former self and the glory days of storage in the data center will not return. We believe AWS’ storage business is around $6.5-$7B today and will approach $10B annually on a run rate basis by the end of next year. While several trends are affecting the traditional storage business, but by far, AWS’ moves are the most notable.
