Around this time last year, commentators across the industry predicted that 2018 was going to be the 'year of data protection', and it was. Even halfway through the year, we had seen a number of high profile data breaches and the public's awareness of the value and vulnerability of their sensitive data skyrocketed.

Around this time last year, commentators across the industry predicted that 2018 was going to be the 'year of data protection', and it was. Even halfway through the year, we had seen a number of high profile data breaches and the public's awareness of the value and vulnerability of their sensitive data skyrocketed.

Value-added distributor (VAD) Exclusive Group has teamed up with INFINIDAT in a new strategic distribution partnership that will provide partners with access to the InfiniBox platform. The enterprise storage provider will now form part of Exclusive Group’s BigTec cloud transformation division, as the cooperation targets deeper market penetration across EMEA and Asia – particularly in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand in the Asia Pacific region, as well as the UK, the DACH region and France in EMEA.

Among the enterprise storage arrays, the Infinidat InfiniBox is a disk-based system swimming in an ocean of flash. The InfiniBox design hinges on machine learning algorithms that extract high performance from commodity-priced capacity spinning media. Infinidat's system only includes about 3% of flash to support its neural caching system, giving it the potential for seven nines of availability at petabyte scale. The latest version of InfiniBox system software supports more than 8 PB of effective capacity in a 42U rack.

Senwes, the South African agriculture firm, has begun using an enterprise data storage array provided by INFINIDAT. The storage solution promises to deliver faster-than-all-flash performance, high availability and multi-petabyte scale capacity. With the new offering, Senwes aims to future-proof its storage growth through improved performance, reduced costs, and increase reliability.

The need for companies to balance the costs, performance and capacity of their data storage resources has resulted in a complex mix of storage tiers, which also limits the benefits that can be derived from the faster access and analysis of data.

However, software-defined storage solutions can help to manage the complexity and, thereby, make data available when and where it is needed in business processes. This type of solution improves data management and stewardship, which also facilitates data protection compliance and improves security, says enterprise storage multinational Infinidat South Africa country manager Hayden Sadler.
